Holy Monastery of Koroni

The Holy Monastery of Koronis got its name from its location. Located to the east side of Lake, close to the village of Mesenikolas, the Monastery is like a crown on the mountains (korona in Greek is the crown). Looking at the fertile plain of Thessaly (800m altitude), it was built by Emperor John II Komnenos, in the early 12th century, when the miraculous image of Mary Virgin of Koroni was found in the exact position, where today is the Monastery.
